On the occasion of Zoomtopia 2020, a two-day virtual conference that opened with a keynote to present the company’s vision by Ceo Eric S. Yuan, Zoom revealed the main developments of the videoconference platform

According to Yuan, this difficult period has taught us that distance work works and the future will bring a hybrid among the best of personal and virtual communications. The new implementations of the Zoom platform are designed to meet the needs of the current moment and also for the future.

There are four main new developments in Zoom.

First, OnZoom: This is a unique online event platform that allows Zoom users to create and host free, paid and fundraising events. Hosts can grow their business, expand their reach to a new audience, and organize donations through native integration.

Zoom users can discover these events and subscribe to new experiences with additional features such as gift tickets and a dashboard for participants, to keep their favorite events and brands under control. OnZoom is currently available as a public beta for US users.

The second more than a novelty is the confirmation of an important new function of which the arrival had already been announced. End-to-end encryption (E2EE), as an optional feature, will generally be available in technical preview for free and paid Zoom users next week. It can be enabled at account, group and user level and, depending on how the account administrator sets the function, it can be enabled and disabled by the host according to the meeting.

When enabled, Zoom’s E2EE function ensures that communication between meeting participants using Zoom applications is encrypted using encryption keys known only to those attendees’ devices. With E2EE no third party, including Zoom, has access to the private keys of the meeting.

The third novelty concerns the customizable SDK. Zoom added new improvements to its SDKs to allow developers and companies to enrich their custom video-based applications with the Zoom platform: the option is now available on Android, iOS and web.

Developers can use a user interface and a customizable session control that makes it easier for them to bring high quality video, audio and instant chat into their applications.

The fourth innovation also concerns developers, but especially companies, and is represented by Zapp, the apps in Zoom. Zapp allows developers to create apps that enhance workflows before, during and after the meeting. Zoom intends to bring the apps developed in the home and by third parties in the meeting experience for real-time use.

Zapp are designed to offer developers a fast and flexible web view canvas to create and distribute applications. Over 25 partners joined Zoom in launching this feature and you can see several examples of these in-meeting apps from companies like Salesforce, Slack, Zendesk, Dropbox and others.

In addition to these new developments, Zoom has also introduced numerous improvements for its core platform of unified communications.
