Against revenge porn, one of the most odious forms of violence against women and more generally against non-consensual pornography, the Data Protection Supervisor decided to make available on his website an emergency channel. People who fear that their intimate photos or videos can be released without their consent on Facebook or Instagram will report this risk and get the images blocked.

The preventive reporting channel is the one activated last year in Italy, as a pilot program, by Facebook and which has been accessible so far in our country only through a non-profit association.

From March 8th, the people of the age who fear that their intimate images, present in photos and videos, are shared and therefore subject to revenge porn, can therefore contact the Privacy Authority, by visiting the page www.gpdp.it/reven

On the page provided by the Guarantor, potential victims of non-consensual pornography will find a form to be filled in to provide the Authority with information to assess the case and to indicate to the interested party the link to directly upload the images on the program.

Once loaded, images will be encrypted by Facebook using a… hash code, so that they become unrecognizable before being destroyed and, through a comparison technology, blocked by possible attempts to publish them on the two platforms, contrasting the king
