Interview with Danilo Rivalta, CEO of Finix Technology Solutions.

We have carried out a series of interviews with the main ICT and digital companies in 2021, in the light of the theme of Recovery plan, the plan for the recovery, economic and social, of the European nations.

The Italian government called it the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Europe launched the Next Generation EU formula. We, in the headquarters that we are responsible for, the technological one, like to decline it as Next Generation IT: IT understood, both as Information technology, and as Italy.

Eight questions, whose answers allow us to highlight the position of society and to build an overall framework of participation of ICT realities in the growth of the country in the digital sense.

The starting context, therefore, is that of Recovery Plan. Of the 196 billion euros that will be able to invest our country, almost 49 billion will be destined to the digital transformation of the Italian society. But digital will also enter other sectors: health, education, infrastructure and the transition to energy and environmental sustainability. In all these areas, the role of the ICT will be central in 2021.

We address them on the basis of seven topics plus one: technologies for recovery plan, smart working, data driver, cloud, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, 5G. The eighth element is that ‘celato’ in the DNA of the society and clearly and distinguishably connotations the technological figure, the contribution that it will give to the national digital development.

In the context of the Recovery plan • Next generation IT, what are the technological levers that will be moved first, to achieve what goals?

Our country is at a turning point, that is to have the availability of 49 billion for its digitization, innovation, competitiveness and culture. In our opinion, the first levers to move should be those that, like Finix Technology Solutions, we have identified to be more enabling for a real process of digitization of the business of companies: artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and cybersecur We see, in essence, a future in which information technology is the guiding strategy and not mere commodity.

Smart working will become structural: with what technological and organizational impacts, in terms of workflow?

Smart working must not be understood only as work from home, but as a smart, intelligent way of working. There is a wide range of possibilities for professional expression that opens outside the office and can take shape at home, as well as in intelligently equipped coworking environments.

The important thing is that this range of possibilities is supported by efficient technologies: by a sufficiently fast wi-fi connection, by quality notebooks, by the best tools to manage calls, etc. On this point, however, there is still a lot of work to do and plenty of space to invest: we all took for granted the presence in every family and in every house of these tools, but now we understand that it is not necessarily so and that, indeed, there are still

In terms of workflow, this means that these aspects of work need and must be given greater care and attention than has been done so far. It will help to surround the worker remotely in a smart ecosystem that also involves, for example, medical examinations, contacts with the basic doctor, the conduct of bureaucratic and administrative operations and much more. For this reason, smart working is also of primary importance for public interest places such as hospitals or banks: many investments in technology and security have been customs-free and made common practice by the situation we are in, but there is still much to do for

We are building a society that must learn to cultivate data from the time they are born. What will it be useful to do, especially on the PMS front?

The centrality of the data has always been the point that is most at heart both at FINIX Technology Solutions and Fujitsu, of which we are distributors of unique solutions in Italy.

Finix Technology Solutions is working to reach a company that makes data growing a priority. If large companies and public administration are further in the process, and are also strong in their ability to invest, for SMEs there is certainly even more of a lack in cultural, entrepreneurial and investment terms It will require a great job of training and preparation in which I believe IT companies will have to play a leading role. For the cloud to be for everyone and everything, as I said, we must work to simplify digitalization. For SMEs in particular, the cloud can certainly be seen as a starting point: the cloud is in fact a technology that allows to immediately lower and simplify the initial investment, thus also ensuring greater flexibility and scalability.

Once more confidence is gained in this technology, more complex digitisation projects can be proposed to the SMEs. For this kind of reality, the cloud could be defined as the Trojan horse of a process towards digitalization, a catalyst that helps speed up the process.

Like health, safety is increasingly a national direction. For the digital one, Italy is called to take a step forward. What will it do to accomplish it?

Having a national directional booth on the theme of cybersecurity is necessary, starting perhaps from the Public Administration, and then arriving at all citizens.

The IO cashback app is a clear example of how this process is already partly taking shape: for the first time, all citizens are asked to provide sensitive data, which are then made available to an app managed by a national director who assumes the task of I think this may be a great opportunity for a whole population group that was previously completely excluded from this kind of dynamics: from this point of view, in a few months, Italy has made a leap forward of a few years.

Unbound by consumer applications, artificial intelligence no longer seems to be a How will we see it put to good use for the growth of the country?

For me this has always been a battlehorse: artificial intelligence, in fact, not only is not an enemy, but rather represents technology, the one that will help enable all the others and, above all, facilitate their use. I’d like her to be seen as a friend technology, not an enemy. A national steering booth will also be needed in this case, in order to be able to explain in an authoritative way (and not only from a technological point of view) its possible artificial intelligence. The investments that this technology requires are important investments, so the directional cabin should probably be imagined at European level, and not only national, even with the aim of countering the powerlessness of the USA, China and Asia-Pacific.

The focal point is not to make it clear what lies behind such a technology or how this functions, but how easy it is to use. If cybersecurity is generally perceived as a pure reaction, the reaction to an attack and a non-security situation, artificial intelligence is rather in my opinion an enabling technology, like the cloud.

5G is on the way. How can you start by contextualizing it in the areas of recovery plan?

Speaking merely as a user, I sincerely do not see 5G as an enabling technology like the others I mentioned (Cloud and Artificial Intelligence). I see this kind of technology as part of a system that must be able to hold on to its own legs. I believe that 5G can make many processes faster and more efficient, but processes that must already be able to work. The 5G will certainly be a great opportunity for telecommunications companies, or other IT companies in the ecosystem that will invest and make use of them, or even for the same companies, so it will speed up and improve much of the work, but I do not see it as a
