During the first days Clubhouse had the features of a river in full: a stream of audio information that ran fast, without restraint, pulling behind cubic meters of words, speeches, chatter from the inconsistent contours. Then the rooms began to consolidate, the themes to structure, transforming fluid magma into an element in gradual solidification. All this until March 6, 2021, the date when everything changed.

We had already mentioned this a couple of times: they were waiting for the new release of the app. @Paul (Paul Davidson), co-founder of Clubhouse, had talked about it on Sunday, February 28. But no one would have thought that the new feature would trigger such overwhelming effects among social audio users.

At 7am on March 6th, the iPhone began to vibrate, shaking like it was possessed: hundreds of messages, requests, invitations started to sink one after the other, without a truce. The new release was making its way like the water of a dam about to collapse. What was going on? Nothing particular, at first sight: the new functionality, so long awaited in the last four weeks, had materialized suddenly in the hands of the iPhone owners, decreeing the beginning of a new era in the world of Clubhouse: the confused era and,

The ride of bison

Yes, the impression was a hectic race of all to grab the club of their lives. Not that clubs were limited (in fact they can be created at most two per month per account), but the idea that someone else could appropriate the creature that was so carefully grown in the last month had the disruptive effect of a vulcan explosion.

Within a couple of hours clubs of all kinds appeared, tens of thousands of invitations crossed the immaterial world of Clubhouse, phones started ringing or vibrating. I mean, a real stock-exchange collapse frenzy.

But what was the real peculiarity of this new release? Simple: to be able to start a club by typing it directly from the application, avoiding to fill out a form and to wait months for the approval of the parent company.

Going into the user profile, at the foot of the bio, magically appeared a + sign. In five minutes here is the club, with lots of description, guidelines, topics covered and invitation screen. Just activate the follower names and send a request for membership. It is therefore clear how many invitations started in the first hours of activation.

Well, what’s so important about a club?

The secret of collective frenzy

The club è a thematic box containing people who, in turn, can create rooms of various kinds, united by the same theme. The club allows you to index topics and topics, which is not possible for the rooms as such. The club can be customized, made commercial under the name of a particular brand. In short, it is as the two co-founders repeatedly pointed out , it is an organism with which users can get involved creating fluid and coordinated structures, with which they can create business,

The club creator becomes the founder/ administrator, can appoint members and have the power to change anything other than the name: from description to guidelines of the club, from illustrative icon to composition of the management staff. The members of the club are invited by the directors and, once they have agreed to join the group, they have the possibility to create private rooms (that is, limited to the members of the club itself) that are decorated with the club emblem.

Only administrators can change private rooms in public once they have started. Followers, users who discover the club and who simply follow it, have no power but to get notifications when the club organizes a room.

In short, a complex organism with great potentialities, but that in a sense immediately started to create discomforts: what if two clubs have the same name? What if you create more clubs with the same theme?

Clubs with the same name (or very similar) can be created. The authority of the organizers and moderators of the rooms will make the most effective from the point of view of communication. In any case, avoid using registered brand names, because this could trigger unpleasant and economically challenging legal retaliation.

@Paul’s response to release news

The Clubhouse co-founders’ conference, Sunday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m. CET (9:00 AM, San Francisco time) had 7,800 users.

There were essentially two improved features in the new app, as indicated by @Paul at Q&A: the creation of clubs directly from the application and the new mode of audio transmission. We’ve talked about the first one. The second one is activated through the three usual dots in the upper right hand side of the room.

There are three audio qualities allowed: low, normal and high. This is an improvement that intervenes on the transmission of sound and not on reception. @Paul has recommended to always maintain the low quality, especially in case of slow connection. The high quality audio transmission is instead designed for those who transmit music data, proving that the idea of transforming Clubhouse rooms into concert halls is an increasingly realistic hypothesis.

Relations with VoiceOver further improved

But these are not only the features of the new version of the app: a substantial improvement in the activities of rooms for those who use the VoiceOver functions has been completed with speed and efficiency by Clubhouse technicians: users who use this system can now feel Further improved function is then the one that allows those who use VoiceOver to moderate a room immediately realizing who raised his hand to speak.

The team of Clubhouse is particularly concerned about those who have problems of view, in the very democratic spirit of wanting to put everyone on the same level.

I mean, a weekend of fire in the rooms of social audio. Meanwhile, for Android users, still no news. They are in fearful expectation, a spasmodic wait that ‘will transform the hectic atmosphere of these days in a quiet walk in a spring park.
