Google has updated Android Auto, adding new features to the integration platform between the smartphone and the vehicle’s on-board system.
The news is focused on offering easier access to its contents, with improved search and multimedia navigation capabilities. And about presenting new ways to stay in touch, with visual previews of messages and group messaging.
The new features can be used with multimedia apps such as Google Play Books, Google Play Music, iHeartRadio, Pocket Casts and Spotify. Messaging functions work with popular messaging apps such as Messages, Hangouts and WhatsApp. In addition, Google reports that in the coming months it will work to add support for these new features to additional apps.
New multimedia features of Android Auto
The content is now brought to the forefront on the screen, so that it will have to spend less time browsing the content. The layout has been improved, and is now characterized by a larger view of the album’s artwork. This allows you to identify and select a content you want to play more quickly.
Google also informs that it has improved the voice search experience. You can use voice commands to access more categorized search results.
New messaging options
Android Auto now allows you to stay securely connected with multiple people at the same time. When messages arrive, Android Auto can show a short preview of the text when the vehicle is stopped.
This message preview feature is only optional: it is activated via the Auto Android settings menu. It therefore offers the possibility to choose the setting we prefer, between privacy and comfort.
In addition to SMS messaging, Android Auto now supports apps that use MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) and RCS (Rich Communication Services). This means that messaging apps can now offer additional features, such as support for group messaging.
